Outdoor Activities

The centre offers a wide range of activities. Many are based in the centre itself such as climbing and archery, others nearby, canoeing, biking and rafting, with some, such as trekking and overnight camps in the nearby mountains. They have been designed to challenge students, yet all with elements of fun so that all students will enjoy themselves.

All activities have been risk-assessed and are led by experienced instructors and where necessary with well-qualified and experienced English-speaking Thai guides.

Archery

ImageThe centre has a 12 metre “short range” which is perfect for groups of all ages and abilities. Set inside a The Adventure Club it provides cover from the elements while welcoming any breeze that may come along. Sessions may also be conducted in the evening with the whole range floodlit.
The 1 – 2 hours structured lessons involve the basics of how to shoot an arrow, aiming off, arrow collection, scoring as well as fun games to improve accuracy.

Camping and Hilltribe Village Stays

The chance to camp out overnight – in the mountains or on a beach in the middle of the Maekok River - is often the first time that visiting students have had such an experience. They set up their own tent, cook their food, play games and sit round a campfire watching the stars until bedtime.

It is also possible to spend a night or two in a hill tribe village, staying with a family. Groups carrying out community projects in schools in hill tribe villages will often stay in the village and this experience certainly increases their understanding of and empathy with, life as a hill tribe villager. We provide sleeping bags, mattresses, pillows and mosquito nets. Some groups are happy to eat with the families, otherwise, we send food for the evening meal and breakfast.

Climbing and Bouldering Wall

ImageOur 12 metre climbing wall caters for beginner’s right up to experienced climbers.

It has features including a slab, vertical and overhanging routes and offers the ability to bridge for those much needed rests. The different routes are colour coded, and offer grades from easy to hard. Coupled with the adjacent bouldering wall for getting those forearms really “pumped” it makes for a fun and rewarding activity. The wall allows three students to be climbing and thus there is little sitting around for the groups.

Our instructors are well-qualified and all our equipment is CE rated.

Confidence Course

ImageSet over a muddy pool of rain water is the confidence course, which is a series of obstacles designed to challenge each participants balance and skill.

Can you cross the beam and turn 360º without losing your balance?

Perhaps the vine traverse will throw you off or maybe the monkey rings will slip through your fingers! One thing is certain; only the committed stay dry!

This makes for an enjoyable and entertaining evening activity

High Ropes Course

ImageThe very popular indoor high ropes course has 11 different sections, with a variety of different challenges to test the skills and dexterity of the participants.

A harness and two slings ensures the safety of the participants. This is a great test of dexterity, balance, determination and courage.

Jungle Survival

ImageLocated in nearby woodland is the setting for the “Jungle Survival” course.

Using the scenario of being lost in the jungle the teams must survive by building themselves a shelter, cooking a meal, and evacuating an injured person on a make-shift stretcher. The only equipment available is a machete, rope, bamboo and banana leaves!

Most groups opt for a 3 hour session which begins by teaching the correct technique of how to use a machete, before moving onto knot tying and finishing with how to make a fire and cook a meal of rice, noodles and eggs using only bamboo for your implements.

However, by combining with team challenges where the teams earn points with which to purchase essential items (they start the day with nothing), this can be operated as a whole day teambuilding exercise.

Kayaking

ImageUsing 'sit on' kayaks, a typical session would take roughly 3 hours. Students are first instructed in technique and essential safety drills - either in the swimming pool or on the resort pond. The students then paddle downstream to Sob Fang, a distance of about 5 km. If time and conditions allow, stops will be made on river beaches for a rest and games.
Longer journeys of two to three days can also be arranged, depending on the needs and abilities, but particularly aimed at Duke of Edinburgh / A.Y.P. groups

Mountain Biking

ImageThe Fang National park has some amazing mountain biking offering beautiful views as well as some serious downhill challenges for experienced bikers.

A biking route navigating the rural back roads from Pha Hom Pok (Thailand’s 2nd highest mountain) to the resort is popular, particularly with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Closer to the centre we offer biking along the dirt trails and roads that labyrinth the flat agricultural land, so is suitable for most ages and abilities. A 2.5 hour excursion will take you through the chilli fields and around the foot of “Wat Sob Fang” hill which also provides the opportunity for introducing some easy downhill action, before heading back along the road parallel to the river.

Other Fun Activities

On most evenings, an hour or so is set aside for students to participate in other, less formal activities. These include team games in the archery range or on the sports field, team technology challenges and night games in the adjacent woodland. These are designed to be enjoyable...but also to facilitate teamwork, imagination and in some cases, daring and skill.

Raft Building

ImageSet on the banks of the scenic Maekok River, bordering the neighbouring country of Burma is the location for our Raft Building adventure. The teams must build themselves a raft using bamboo poles, rope and rubber rings and navigate it down the river for an hour or so to the beaching point at Wat Prathert Sob Fang.

This activity is great as a team building exercise as well as an excellent way of getting people on and or in the water without the complexity of skill acquisition associated with kayak sessions.

Team Challenges

An excellent activity designed to get participants to work together to achieve a particular goal. Our team building games are designed with the emphasis on being fun. This way the group members do not even realize that they are in fact learning very important group skills; such as communication, delegation, leadership and trust etc…. The session is based around a scenario about saving the planet from an “alien doomsday machine”, by running the session this way, the clients feel like they are actually working towards achieving something as apposed to just do team building exercises for apparently no reason!

Trekking

ImageThe centre provides trekking trails that vary in difficulty to suit everyone from families to student groups to the serious hiker.

Most take place in or around the Fha Hom Pok National Park (about 45 minutes away) but other lesser demanding hikes can be arranged in the hills surrounding the resort. The leading instructor will have a good knowledge of the trails and are trained in dealing with emergency situations.

In Fha Hom Phok park rangers accompany the group as those treks require constant maintenance and high power long range radios.

Whatever level of difficulty is chosen, you will always be guaranteed to see something of interest, be it local hill tribe culture, caves, waterfalls, hot springs and not to forget all the amazing flora and fauna.

Longer treks can be combined with overnight camps / hill village stays and can be particularly aimed at Duke of Edinburgh / A.Y.P. groups.

Wet Weather Programme

We are 'blessed' with a climate which is thankfully pretty dry and predictable. However occasionally in the summer months, the heavens will open. With the exception of climbing, most actvities can still go ahead unless the rain is of a high intensity or is combined with electrical storms. In such cases, we have enough indoor facilities to provide a range of activities - be it more active such as high ropes or archery, table tennis competitions, or the more sedentary such as technology exercises, quizzes and art / handicrafts.
